Responsive: Feathr

The series of triangular designs I submitted for Feather were lucky enough to be chosen as one of the preliminary designs that could be purchased on the website. This is a great opportunity to have designs seen by a large audience and even be used in their homes. The designs below were chosen:

The email also asked whether more colour variations could be made. Luckily, the designs are quite simple, so this would be easy to do.

Responsive: WWF Brief Research

The quick, close-up, short cut style editing and filming of Edgar Wright is an appropriate style to imitate for the WWF brief. The audience is the 'Always on generation' which refers to an audience which spends a lot of time online. Research shows that this audience has a very short attention span, so would need to be gripped straight from the start. The quick, action-like editing keeps the audience intrigued at all times. The quick editing will also reflect the quick lifestyle of our audience, which will help the audience draw similarities with our character's lifestyle.

The videos below are a great starting point for research. They explain the way in which Edgar Wright uses every opportunity to create a unique, interesting visual experience for the audience. It may be difficult to imitate this style of visuals. We plan to speak to someone who is more experienced within video.

Edgar Wright - How to Do Visual Comedy

Visual comedy is great way to keep the audiences attention on the video and keep them watching. Our video will incorporate a few segments throughout which use the techniques shown in these videos.

Finding one blog entry from OUGD504 that is written in the first person and re-writing it in the third person:

The aim of this magazine ad is for the audience to get a taste of the website and be taught how to make a cocktail. I chose video as a format for this advertisement as I believe it is the best way to teach someone.
First I shot the video below with one camera angle. I kept the angle the same so that I could line the video up with the photo in the advertisement.

Re-Write

The aim of this magazine ad is for the audience to get a taste of the website and be taught how to make a cocktail. Video is an appropriate format for this advertisement as most people find learning through visuals more effective.
The video below was shot with one camera angle. The angle was kept consistent so that the video could be lined up with the photo in the advertisement.

Using third person gives more confidence to work and comes across more professional. less 'I think' and 'In my opinion'. speaking in definites gives a backbone to evaluations.

Finding a bias design decision and re-writing it with justification. treat design as an independent entity. give objective reasons. not reasons based on personal preference.

I first looked at how i could use the V as a symbol in a different way. I saw the V as a tick which as a symbol has positive connotations. This tick could then be applied to diferent parts of their branding to show completion and ready to go. My first mock-up looked very bland and feedback showed that it looked very corporate. I want to use a typeface with curved ends as I believe it looks friendly and connotes food.

Re-Write

Experimentation began with how the V symbol could be seen in different ways. The V could be viewed as a tick, known as a symbol with positive connotations. This tick could then be applied to diferent parts of their branding to show completion and ready to go. Initial experiments were simplistic in their forms which lead to a very bland overall look. Feedback showed that the simplicity gave the design a very corporate feel. A typeface with curved ends would be an appropriate choice for this design as the curved forms give the type a friendly look due to the lack of sharp edges which cannot danger. The curved forms also connote a natural, food theme which works with the companies aims and goals.

Question

What is the difference between the following:

Describing
Using characteristics within the sentence to give a written image of the subject matter.

Analysing
Picking apart the subject matter and using words to show what is good and why and what is bad and why.

Evaluating
Assessing and reflecting on the subject and writing any changes that could be made to improve the subject.

Contextualisation
Looking at the appropriate context of the subject matter alongside the subject matter.

Theorising
Making connections between the theory of the subject and the subject.

Narrating
Describing the process in a storyline tone of voice.

Summarise and Evaluate

Its not necessary to document every slight change. It is necessary to justify you decisions.

Avoid overlay subjective language. Use sophisticated language. Justify your decisions by considering their connotations, significations etc. Blog with purpose
