Studio Brief 1: Creative Networks 4 - Jonathan Barnbrook - Brief and Research

The brief

Produce a series of pre-event posters for Creative Networks - Jonathan Barnbrook. The posters be aimed at Graphic Design, Fine Art, and Creative Advertising students, but should also aim to intrigue people from other courses.

Research

There is a great interview with Jonathan here: http://www.edu.barnbrook.net/qa.html

As research, we looked at the extensive work produced by Johnathan Barnbrook. His book, 'The Barnbrook Bible' gave us insight into his typographic work.
His typefaces are very unorthodox, often inspired by religious or political themes.
What interested us most, and probably most of the general public was the war that Jonathan Barnbrook produced for David Bowie one the years. He used very subversive techniques to strike curiosity into people who saw the advertisements.
We especially liked how we tries to experiment with typography in any situation. For example, this ambitious advert for bowies album, that secretly spells out bowie using parts of a star which has been used for the album cover.
We noticed that a lot of his work features a black, white and red colour scheme. We think this is due to how eye catching this colour scheme is. Below is a logo and typeface designed for the occupy london movement.
