Our blog, Type & Eye, features interviews and the work of professionals. To be able to do this we need to get in contact with them to ask if it is okay for us to feature their work and if they would like to be more involved with our project. This can also work as endorsement for our blog and they can help spread word about it.
A designer I contacted is called Sean McCabe. He is a hand lettering artist, from San Antonio, TX who creates some amazing work. His page features a 'contact' section which I used to fill out a form that explained our project. visit his website here.
For the messages we send to students and professionals the tone of voice we wanted to have is friendly and informal. We start the message 'We love your type' showing instant appreciation for the designers work, then a short paragraph explaining the project and asking if they would like to be involved.
"We love your type! Type & Eye is a new blog started by 5 Leeds College of Art students as part of a project to encourage people to read. We have chosen to create this blog as a resource to show inspirational type work, interviews with professionals, and helpful resources. We would love for you to be involved in our project.
Do we have your permission to show your work on our blog with a link to your website?
If you would be interested in answering a few questions please do get in contact
Thankyou"
He Replied:
This was quite a successful networking attempt. Many of the other people we have tried to contact have not gotten back to us.
