As we have changed our name to Type & Eye we began designing logos. We wanted a sophisticated look so chose a quite eloquent ampersand which is from''.
I began by trying to make a more imaged based logo that incorporated the eye and the ampersand in one. The designs below are a few ideas i had, although they didn't fit the theme that we wanted for our brand identity.
The design below looks like a Picasso drawing. I was quite fond of the design, but it wasn't popular amongst the group. It didn't really show the name well enough.
We chose Bodoni as the font for the rest of our logo as it is a quite classy serif font that fit with the white, crisp and clean look we wanted for the blog. We found that sans-serifs fonts didn't fit in with the ampersand.
In terms of type hierarchy we found that the ampersand was too dominant and drew too much attention away from the rest of the type. We experimented with increasing the stroke on the rest of the type. but it just didn't look good.

We settled on the composition below as it fitted into a square nicer than other designs which fits with the layout the we have chosen for our blog.
