Studio Brief 3: G.I. Joe Retaliation Initial Ideas

I was quite annoyed when I picked G.I. Joe Retaliation out of 'The Randomizer'. I had previously watched the first G.I. Joe film and thought it was dreadful and have always considered it to be the cliche of a pointless action/shooter film that has had no thought put into it. I hoped that the second one would be better, but found that actually, it is just as bad (in my opinion at least).

The IMDB plot summary is as follows: "Framed for crimes against the country, the G.I. Joe team is terminated by the President's order, and the surviving team members face off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence."

And here is the trailer:
Although I disliked the film, I am glad a that they didn't put much thought or effort into the movie poster, so it allows me to create a better one. Although Bruce Willis is in the centre of all the movie posters, he doesn't feature in much of the film.

It is amazing how little differences there are between the posters for the first and second G.I Joe films.  They use the same layout, colour scheme, alignment of type, character stances and more..
The current movie poster has used the complimentary teal and orange colour scheme that is frequently used in action movie posters to try and make them look more exciting. It is a nice colour scheme, but personally I think it is over used and shows that the designers have to rely on this colour scheme to make the poster look interesting. Below are a few examples of this in use:
Below is one of the alternative movie posters used for the film. It is a pretty straightforward collage of the characters in the film that doesn't tell you too much about the film, other than there are lots of guns and swords. They have made the more famous actors larger in this poster design as to encourage the audience to see the film. Channing tatum is only in the film for about 5 minutes, but he is significantly larger than more important characters.
Below are some more variations of movie posters which simply feature one character with a flame at the bottom of the design. These designs are made to show that the film is filled with action and cool looking characters
