We began by researching the branding and menu design for some bars and restaurants that have a similar high-end tone of voice to our own event.
First was the Almanac of beer used by the Botanist restaurant in Leeds City Centre. The high quality publication uses lots of textured stocks and ornate imagery to create an interesting experience whilst selecting a beer.
The beers are displayed as seen below, painted in a watercolour style with hand rendered tasting notes. The lack of layout adds to the hand-rendered almanac theme of the book
Jake's Bar's menu is given a sophisticated style with tall page format and gold foiling on the cover.
Much f the text throughout is centre alligned which gives the design a prestigious feel.
Borders have been used to separate content and establish which areas are drinks and which are additional information.
Looking at their old menu, we can see how they have developed their brand by updating the menu. Although the contents are layed out the same, the updated version feels a lot more high end due to colour choice and printing methods.
Revolution de Cubas menu is almost 30cm in height, which makes for alot of content per page. The pages are filled with a mixture of type and colour reflecting themes of cocktails. Although this is engaging and interesting, this is not the style or tone of voice we aim to acheive.
The use of photos of the cocktails instantly makes the menu and brand seem cheaper.
Even Red Hot World Buffets menu seems cheaper due to photographs, despite their polished finish and luxurious matte stock.
