Design Principles : Birth Of A Font

In class we were told to choose one of the fonts we had brought in, and then use a scalpel, pen and anything else at our disposal to manipulate it in some form. Below is what I created from Futura. I added serifs and made a contrast in the line weight.


We then took the letterforms we created, and had to see how these modifications would stand if we were to make the letterforms regular, bold, light and italic. My results are below.


We were then told to push the bold and light letterforms to the extreme. make them as thin and as bold as possible whilst still be legible. Below are my outcomes.
