Considering the simplicity of my step by step design process I looked into diferent folds to find one that was most suitable for the content that the leaflet would show.
My first thoughts leant towards creating a concertina fold as seen below which would use every other page for a step of the process. This would then stand up to display each step clearly.
I experimented with the concertina fold by making some pages wider than others so that each page would have a bookmark effect that would make parts of the pages content visible when closed.
Upon looking in 'How to Fold' I found some similar suggested folds, but found that then all opened in a quite weird way that I didn't feel was appropriate for my content.
Expanding upon this idea I experimented with ways to keep the concertina leaflet together with an extra page that could wrap around the design and securely slot into a slit in the cover

When researching concertina folds I discovered this old below which had cuts in the pages to show the diferent layers with colour.
I wanted to try something more ambitious than a regular fold so chose to create my own fold which gave a similar layered look as the one above. I folded the corners in to create diagonal folds which then wrapped around the rest of the leaflet.
I've named this fold a 'burrito' fold as it looks similar to a burrito wrapped up in tin foil.I like the dynamic look to this fold and has quite a modern structural look when stood up.
I then began to experiment with pieces of paper to see what other interesting folds I could come up with. I thought about the cyclical nature of the design process and then linked that with the Penrose (impossible) triangle optical illusion and was interested to see if I could recreate it with paper
I was interested with the outcome but could not think of a way to fit content on it in a manor that reflected my personal design process.
Other peoples leaflet designs
We voted for the best leaflet designs on each table and placed them on the crit box for everyone to interact with.
This was one of my favourites as it has similar 3 dimensional layered looks that I will be pursuing. The way that it unfolds out of a sleeve is quite surprising and makes the whole design a lot of fun to interact with. From an audiences perspective it would be a lot more engaging than a regular trifold.
Declan made a trifold that incorporated themes that reflect him as a person. He is known for dressing in blazers and suits, so made the leaflet look and function like one. Again it is very interesting and engaging to people.
The most voted for design was Rebecca's fold which I loved because of the abstract layers. What really interested me was the was it folded into itself to keep it all together. The square dimensions of the design make it ideal as a CD sleeve.
I began looking at belly band designs that would be able to keep my leaflet together and also fit in with the abstract folds. A diagonal belly band would be ideal as seen below.
