Studio Brief 3: First Impressions

A person browsing the internet will spend roughly 5 seconds on a website before deciding whether they will continue to browse the rest of the website, purely based on design and content. To get a sense of this concept we went onto websites and looked at a few diferent websites, well designed and badly designed, to see what our first impressions were and if we would choose to use this site.

The first was this religious website. We found that there was far to much moving animations taking place and the content was very cluttered. Words that came to mind on first impressions were: Disgusting, 90's, Cheesy, Weird.

The second website was Lings Cars which had lots of animated gifs and far too many bright colours. It made it very hard to concentrate on how to navigate the page. Words that came to mind were: Tacky, Pop-up, Untrustworthy, Spam, Mad.

Rezo Zero's Homepage is very minimal and doesn't have much content aside from a title and bright coloured background. Words that people shouted out were: Minimalist, Graphicy, Modern, Bright, Hard to look at.

Initial thoughts of this webpage were mixed. I thought it looked quite clean-cut and modern and simplistic. Some thought it had connotations of a casino website, most probably because of the diamond. Words used to describe this website were: Elegant, Casino, Bland, Pure

Finally we had a look at our colleges website. People in the group generally thought that the design was abstract. The words used to describe it at first glance were: Grid, Busy, Abstract
