The use of colour in these pub menu designs is very modern. The variations between the food and wine menu helps distinguish the two from a distance. The clean simple vector based graphics are given a rustic look to them with the addition of textures. The worn wooden background adds to this rustic effect which sets the tone of voice for the pub.
The use of colour within this menu is great in terms of type hierarchy. The swap of colours in text and background gives the audience a new reading experience which stops the user getting bored. despite the fact it is only a menu and will only be used for a short period of time, it is important that the user is not bored when reading the menu. The extreme type sizes also helps establish a clear type hierarchy and allows the audience to easily navigate to a section that picks their interest. The Crafty Pig has used wine bottles to display their wine list. This is a unique idea which engages to audience. The audience needs to pick up the bottle and turn it around in their hand to read it. This will be completely a completely new experience for the audience and will stand out to them. The print quality of the menu is not great and has a laminated finish which feels tacky. The wine bottle experience could be vastly improved if the menu was designed more like the label of a wine bottle.
Reds true barbecue have established a clear brand identity with red, black and blue colour scheme, western styled type choices and the constant undertone of religious imagery that has been spoofed to give the brand some attitude.
Although the type helps establish clear brand identity, in many cases it can be hard to read. I found myself looking at it as a whole image, than read the content.
The use of colour is very aesthetically pleasing but when considering the functionality of the menu, it is very hard to navigate and the use of many diferent fonts is overwhelming and overall confusing.
The food menu is much clearer to navigate with a clear title and allocated meals and descriptions underneath. The layout is very simple and lets the audience know how to read the menu from the start.
The brands identity s taken further with other pieces of design. For example the use of kinetic type on grease-proof paper on the trays which your food is served onto. The overall aesthetic is quite heavy due to the lack of white space. This reflects their food as it is not a minimal restaurant. A lot of food is piled onto a plate.
