The Macabees 'Go' is a song which escalates to a point where so many instruments are involved and so many sounds are working together that they become one huge sound. This effect along with the style of singing and lyrics creates quite an emotional song which conveys colourful images.
Lyrics
Left you there in the sunlight In the sunshine by the windowsill in the kitchen In light of what was to come it was not enough.
Just like the cardboard that covered The missing panes and cracks in our bedroom windows We should have known they wouldn't keep out the cold It was not enough It's not enough
And it never was And they'll call out with a name by which I'd never call you
And we'll grow out when it's time
And the skins we've known no longer fit us
It's not enough and it leaves you tired See you there in the sunlight In the sunshine by the windowsill in the kitchen
And they'll call out with a name by which I'd never call you All things being well still feel it was not enough
The lyrics are quite ambiguous, not giving much detail to what the song is about, but it is clear that it is an emotional subject. Due to the way in which the song escalates, I got images of a person emotionally ripping away at a wall, revealing more colour. The designs below are outcomes from creating quite abstract images with ink and then placing piece of paper with a torn whole over the top. My intentions for these images and that the design will have a 3 Dimensional look to the sleeve and look as though it has been ripped open.
The splatter design did not have the strong, emotional look that I wanted.
Brush strokes felt a lot more emotional and expressive. after taking photos after moving the design around a lot I found that some looked more balanced than others
By scaling down the image on the design, it gives the sense that there is far more to unveil.
By duplicating, the splatter design and rotating it, patterns began to emerge and gave the more express look that fits with the emotions in the song.
