I have used this project as an excuse to experiment with the vast possible uses of paper in a more creative way than I have previously used it. Here are some interactive pieces of design that I have spotted about and have found interesting as research.
Below are a series of paper models aimed at children which have a 3d aspect to them that I found in WH Smiths. If viewed at a certain angle they are extremely effective. This technique could be used in my project by creating a model cocktail or bar.
A similar technique was used in this christmas window display to create models of a reindeer and sleigh.
Another type of interactivity is this design by stefan sagmeister which uses the perspective of the viewer to change the image they can see from an asleep face to a very awake face. The possibilities of this are endless but would definitely be more appropriate in certain cases.
Pop-up Books
Pop-up is a great way to make the audience take notice of your design. It will pop up and surprise the audience and focus all their attention onto it because of how unique and interactive it is. There are a lot of ways to make pop-up designs, with these come a lot of issues. The practicality of pop-up design has to be considered as well. If the ad is intended for a magazine it is important to remember that each pop-up news to be hand prepared and it will also increase the thickness of the magazine.
Below is the greatest and most creative use for pop-up design I have seen to date. The diferent ways that the audience needs to interact with the paper forces them to focus their attention and they will find they are focusing on the content a lot more than they were if pop-up was not involved.
I am very keen to experiment and learn the art of pop-up as I believe it isn't used enough and feel as though it is not just for children's books. When researching I found a great pop-up learning resource that will come in useful if I need it later on.
Origami
Orgami is a way that I have seen others on the course create interactive design. It is important to find out is the technique is appropriate though. I found a tutorial for making a cocktail glass and a bottle but The outcome is not impressive enough and puts too much effort in the hands of the audience.
Endless Leaflet
The way a leaflet folds can add some interactivity to a design. The fold seen below has been used well here, although I cannot think of an appropriate way to use it in my project.
Anamorphic Design
Anamorphic design has been used to intrigue audiences for a while on a large scale. I have never seen it been done before on a small scale in a magazine. This technique would be interesting and simple to accomplish, but I will need to experiment with the style of image I use. All my previous imagery has been watercolour styled, which may not work with this illusion.
