Below are all the layout designs I broth to the crit, along with the feedback I was given.
Many people agreed that the tattoo gun in the design below, needed to go, or be changed. The cord is too distracting to the eye and isn't needed. Everyone liked the type used for the title, but suggested using a diferent font for the body copy. The tattoo sleeve imagery in this layout was not clear.
The religious imagery in the layout below was the most obvious. Many people thought it was very obvious, but said they are not sure if the inconstant layout between double page spreads would work.I got mainly positive feedback from the layout blow, but a few people realised that the layout wasn't informed by my research.
A few people said that they thought this was the most likely layout style to be associated with tattoos. The square cropped photos make it almost look like a tattoo parlour catalogue.
People agreed with me, saying that this layout was too simplistic and did not have the correct tone of voice that is associated with tattoos. Some thought it was unconventional, but like the clean approach to tattoos, as many people paint them in a dark light.
