Studio Brief 3: Page Layout Research: Huck

Huck is a bimonthly magazine which I am subscribed to. One of the main reasons I enjoy reading it, is the interesting layouts. Below are a few layouts that they typically use.

When interviewing someone they often find a quote from them that would rope the readers in and display it in the centre of the page as seen below. They use another font which is legible from a distance. I may experiment with this layout, possibly arranging a picture in the centre, or a quote.

They often have interesting Illustrated titles which take up half of a page to catch the eye of the audience once again. The text bellow is set in the 2 right hand columns of a 3 column layout. This is done to counterbalance the illustration. The image is arranged in the bottom 2/3 of a 3x3 grid.
The page below uses a 2x5 grid. They use the middle row to display the title in quite an unconventional way. This separates the pay into 4 separate areas for 4 separate stories.
The double page spread below uses 2 columns on each page. The photo takes up the 3 of them. I'm not sure if the overlapping text is effective. I think it gives the pages a sense of retrospect or nostalgia.
