Studio Brief 4:Initial Ideas and Iterim Crit

For this brief we have to find a problem with our subject from Studio Brief 3 and solve it with a design solution. My topic is tattoos, so I have brain stormed ideas as I could not identify many problems with tattoos.

Problems with tattoos


  1. People regret some of their tattoos when they are older
  2. People are against tattoos
  3. Many people get tattoos without knowing the meaning that is tied to them
  4. People are unaware about how to go about getting a tattoo
  5. People can't decide what tattoo to get
  6. There is a huge tattoo community in Leeds, but it doesn't have a convention
The interim crit helped me focus my ideas more. It was suggested that I combined a few ideas and raise awareness of a Leeds based tattoo convention with a leaflet that had info on independent tattooists, information about tattoos and a guide to helping people decide what tattoos to get. The leaflet will be upbeat and try to change some people negative opinions about tattoos.

I could also produce a website, badges, stickers,Timetable , tote bags, transfer tattoos, posters, business cards, T-shirt, note-pad and much more. The idea is that there is a series of merchandise that is has all the same branding and creates a buzz amongst the leeds tattoo community.

I could easily determine the success of my designs by either asking around to see who has heard of the convention and also have a visiter counter on the website.

The leaflet will feature a questionnaire that will tell the person filling it out which tattoo they should consider getting.
